What are we looking for?
Health & Safety overview:
Every individual has a responsibility for Health & Safety. The jobholder must ensure that his/her actions do not put oneself and others at risk and cooperate fully with the company in respect to Health & Safety.
Always ensure that the on-site “clean-as-you-go” procedure is followed. Ensure that any egg or debris on the floor is cleared immediately.
Ensure that fire-exits and walkways are kept clear. Ensure that fire doors are closed. Never block access to fire extinguishers or doors.
Report all accidents and near-misses to the relevant line manager immediately. Ensure that any damage to plant or machinery is reported to the relevant line manager immediately.
Ensure that before using any equipment the operative checks for damage or excessive wear. The operative should also check that the equipment is clear of debris and can function safely. Ensure that all guards are replaced if removed. Obey any specific work practices i.e.. start-up procedures.
Always obey signs and wear protective clothing where required
Skills & Knowledge:
Applicants for this position must be MULTI SKILLED ideally City & Guilds BTEC Level 3 or above in Electrical / Mechanical engineering. A recognized apprenticeship within a manufacturing environment would be extremely advantageous. All applicants must be self-motivated and have excellent communication skills. A minimum of 3 years experience of working within an automated production facility is essential for this position, whilst experience of working in the food / Brewery / FMCG.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a list of core responsibilities to be completed by the jobholder. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follow the company Health & Safety guidelines as outlined above
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and give feedback to production regarding expected downtime and planned corrective actions
- Work with production team at all levels to guide and train staff to identify potential improvements to OEE, breakdown reduction and improvement of machine standards and operation.
- Work with the engineering team to test, install and commission new equipment prior to ‘go live’ of the packing centre
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance and other equipment servicing as directed by the engineering manager
- Work closely with the fellow engineers and the production team to develop a dynamic and positive attitude to the challenges of a busy production department
- Focus on the key performance indicators (KPIs) identified by the Engineering Manager, and work towards achieving and surpassing agreed targets
- Ensure that all necessary documentation completed in full and on time.
- Attend team huddles or site meetings as requested identifying risks to the operation or personnel, areas of improvement in GMP or OEE.
- Complete any necessary training required for the role. The jobholder should be open to personal development. This will include becoming super users on all automation, tray wash and Moba grading equipment.
- Identify areas of inefficiency and waste. In agreement with the Engineering Manager, implement and review the agreed changes
- Ensure all user training courses provided by the company are attended in full as required by the engineering lead, engineering manager, or packing centre manager. These may be in-house or externally provided
- Complete IOSH working safely and support in completing risk assessments in the department and for machinery
- The site is committed to being “audit-ready” at all times. Therefore, it is imperative that site hygiene, health & safety, and document control are always all in line with customer specifications
- Maintain a respectful and constructive working relationship with colleagues, subordinates, and managers
The demands of the business may change in line with customer requirements and changes may be made to the above guidelines. The jobholder should be flexible to the changing demands of the business which may include travelling to other areas of the business.
Training and Education:
The jobholder may be expected to complete training in the following areas. The requirements will be dependent on the jobholder’s previous experience, knowledge, qualifications, and the demands of the specific activities.
- Health & Safety – IOSH Working Safely, Behavioural safety, Near Miss and Hazard Reporting
- Technical and process training applicable to the role
- Manual handling
- Mechanical handling equipment where required

- Food handling/hygiene
- IT Literate
Physical demands:
The production process requires manual handling and working in confined spaces. The jobholder should have a reasonable level of fitness and should report any conditions that may be aggravated by the required activities.
